Living With Melanoma

Living with melanoma is a challenge. Ask for the help you need. You may find that you want help dealing with:

the after-effects of surgery
side effects of treatment
fear of cancer coming back

Talk with a member of your health care team about joining a support group. In cancer support groups, you and your family will be able to talk with other people who understand what you're going through. You can learn from others about how they cope with melanoma and its treatment. Other professionals might be helpful for you, including:

a social worker
a counselor
a member of your church

It's natural to have fears and concerns about things such as caring for your family, keeping your job, or continuing your daily activities. Social workers, for example, can suggest resources for financial aid, transportation, home care, or emotional support. Find whatever setting is comfortable for you to discuss your concerns—in a group, or privately with one person. Knowledge can also help you face the challenges of melanoma.
